N.S.W. Rural Fire Service

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is the world’s largest volunteer fire service. Our members provide fire and emergency services to approximately 95 percent of NSW.

NSW RFS members attend a range of incidents and activities:

  • Bush and grass fires
  • House and structure fires
  • Storm damage
  • Search and rescue
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Community education
  • Bush fire mitigation

Statistics

The NSW RFS consists of over 2,000 brigades spread through 125 rural fire districts. There are 47 district offices, 4 regional offices and 1 headquarters.

The service consists of nearly 75,000 volunteers and over 850 staff who attend around 23,500 incidents per year.
